Scott Conlon, CPM, CFFM, CAFM is a Managing Director at Mercury Associates, Inc. (www.mercury-assoc.com), where he directs the firm’s consulting services to US federal government and military clients. He has extensive experience presenting on a wide array of fleet management subjects at industry trade shows and training events, and has directed studies of alternative fuel and electric vehicle feasibility, fleet operating and replacement costs, management best practices, and data analysis.
Prior to joining Mercury Associates in 2014, he held various positions at Montgomery County, MD, Division of Fleet Management Services and at the University of Maryland Shuttle-UM transit system. Scott holds multiple nationally recognized certifications as a fleet manager, public manager, and master technician, and is a US Marine Corps veteran.

Dennis Walsh (BEng, MEngSC, CPEng, RPEQ, MIEAust, M IPWEA, APEC Engineer Int PE (Aust), GAICD)
Dennis is the Chief Engineer of Transport and Main Roads. In this role Dennis oversees a wide range of technologies including Geospatial Technologies, Road Design and Hydraulics; Pavement, Materials and Geotechnical Engineering; Traffic Engineering Technology and Systems; Structures; and Safer Roads Infrastructure.
Dennis is a Chartered Professional Engineer, a member of Engineers Australia and a graduate of the Australian Institute of company directors
Dennis has worked across a wide range of areas including strategic planning, traffic and transport planning, road safety policy and engineering, road design, road operations and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). He has contributed to a range of national groups and is the Queensland Director on the ANCAP Board. Dennis is a board member and the Vice President of ITS Australia. He is also a member of the Institute of Public Works Engineers Australia.
He is committed to bringing together the skills and knowledge of his team and their partners to embrace new technologies, engage with customers and drive new ideas into action for the benefit of the community.
Scott is a senior Mechatronic Engineer with extensive experience in the manufacturing, agricultural, waste management and construction industries. During his career, he has developed a number of industry leading technologies for pedestrian detection, worker safety and mobile asset monitoring solutions for use in the mobile industry.
His background in cutting edge vision technologies and smart control systems has enabled him to assist companies in developing intelligent area monitoring solutions aimed at creating safer workplaces for employees and members of the public. He also has a number of years experience working with J1939 and CANBUS communications, which has enabled him to assist many businesses in retrieving useful information from vehicles to maximise operational efficiency, the corner stone of any fleet based business.

Peter is recognised as an industry leader with 17 years of fleet management experience, recently returning to local government fleet management following four years working in the not-for-profit sector where he achieved the prestigious AfMA 2017 Fleet Manager of the Year Award.
Peter is the newest member of the IPWEA Fleet Council and is Chair of the Newcastle (NSW) branch.
Dr Jeff Potter
Principal Safety Policy Advisor
Dr Jeff Potter, is Principal Safety Policy Advisor at the National Transport Commission. He has had over 20 years’ experience in developing and implementing road safety policy and safety programs relating to driver behaviour, particularly in heavy vehicle safety, fatigue management, speed countermeasures and drink and drug driving. In his current position he is involved in the development of safety policy and regulatory reform for road transport and in the review of the Heavy Vehicle National Law.
Jeff is the Chair of the Victorian Chapter of the Australasian College of Road Safety and member of the International Council for Alcohol, Drugs and Traffic Safety.
Fleet Management Consultant
Stephen has worked in Fleet Management and Consultancy both locally and internationally and has over 30 years’ experience in fleet management consultancy covering the full range of fleet operations in both the mining and commercial sectors. He has also worked as a Management Consultant specialising in Change Management and Corporate Governance
Stephen is the highest qualified Four Wheel Drive trainer in Australia and the only Four Wheel Drive Trainer in Australasia certified by the International Four Wheel Drive Trainers’ Association as a Master Trainer He is also the only Four Wheel Drive Trainer in Australia certified by Tread Lightly as a Master Tread Trainer.
Stephen holds an MBA, is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors as well as a Justice of the Peace (Qualified) and holds a Cert IV in Training and Assessment, Cert IV in Occupational Health and Safety Cert III in Investigative Services Cert II in Security (operations) and has completed the IPWEA Fleet Management Certificate He is also Qualified in the Australasian Inter Service Incident Management System.

National Sales Manager
Adam is the National Sales Manager of Endeavour Tools, an Automotive and Industrial Tool wholesaler with one of Australia’s largest ranges of specialty tooling, and a key focus on diagnostics.
Having spent the majority of his career in the Automotive industry, Adam started as a Light Automotive Mechanic working in both dealerships and private workshop environments before embarking on career into the wholesale distribution of quality tools and equipment.
Adam will be attending on behalf of Redline Detection, a global leader in automotive leak detection equipment.
Chris Evans is the EROAD Health and Safety Stakeholder Manager and has been in the safety field for over 25 years. Chris is an IOSH Chartered Health and Safety professional supporting management in the transport, oil and gas, manufacturing and retail sectors. Chris joined EROAD after working for ten years in a Shell company in the Middle East supporting safety in an operation with 55,000 staff and contractors driving over 300M km each year and he has extensive knowledge of safety management systems, road safety, safety culture, safety strategy, risk assessment, competency as well as auditing and incident investigation.
Degree qualified in Safety Management as well as Chemical Engineering, he also has extensive experience in the logistics and trucking industry heading safety in DHL Logistics in the UK and a pan European Logistics firm, Christian Salvesen which employed over 16,000 staff.
Brent has a background in civil engineering and has been working with machine control, guidance, and survey products for the last 9 years. Brent spent 6 years working at Position Partners in various service and operational roles at their Queensland branch. Most recently Brent has been with Komatsu and Unisi supporting Smart Construction Solutions for North and South Queensland regions. These experiences have given Brent a wealth of knowledge about effectively deploying digital technologies to the civil construction industry.

Don has completed an Auto electrical and Diesel fuel injection apprenticeship early 80’s in Ireland, Cert 2 in Automotive Refrigeration and the IPWEA Fleet Management Certificate.
He boasts hands on in the Auto Electrical Trade for 36 Years, covering industrial, Agricultural, Marine, Road Transport, Waste, Light Commercial and Fleet sectors
Employed with Bundaberg Regional Council for 9 years, initially as the leading hand auto electrician and for the past 3 years as the Bundaberg workshop supervisor.
In his current role he have overall management responsibility for the following:
- Maintenance planning & scheduling – approximately 8,000 work orders per annum
- Repairs and maintenance completed in-field / workshop / external providers
- Multiple trades including diesel fitters, auto electricians and dual trade apprentices
Matt has been co-owner of Plant Assessor since 2004. Matt holds various business qualifications, including an MBA from Australian Graduate School of Management.
Prior to joining Plant Assessor, Matt spent 8 years as General Manager of substantial manufacturing and distribution businesses in the steel industry, which followed 9 years as a business manager and consultant.
Matt is responsible for researching and publishing various papers related to practical plant safety management, and central to his role is the identification of ways to leverage technology to improve productivity, profitability and safety of machinery centric organisations.

Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia
Paul is the National Manager for Membership and Workforce Development for Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia (HVIA); a national industry body that represents the manufacturers and suppliers of heavy vehicles, their components, equipment and technology.
Paul has worked with HVIA for fourteen years and has led its workforce development program over that period. With an education background Paul has a comprehensive understanding of the vocational education and training system and the primary training qualifications related to the heavy vehicle industry.
Paul sits on the national Automotive Industry Reference Committee (IRC) for heavy vehicle which develop and review training packages to ensure the national training system provides the qualifications, knowledge and skill sets that industry needs. Paul also sits on the Queensland Reference Group Committee for Advanced Manufacturing.
At a local level, Paul chairs the Vehicle Manufacturing Working Group which is facilitated by the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) and chairs the Community Committee Group run by the Australian Industry Trade College – Ipswich Campus.
Peter is one of Australia’s leading Fuel Tax Credit advisors and co-creator of the Teletrac Navman FTC Manager software. With more than 16 years’ experience, he has assisted hundreds of clients to claim many millions of dollars’ worth of Fuel Tax Credit refunds from the ATO and maximise their ongoing Fuel Tax Credit entitlements.
As one of the very few advisors in Australia that works solely on Fuel Tax Credit matters, over the last decade he has had significant experience working with transport fleets of varying sizes. In addition to his extensive work with transport operators, he has also assisted a wide range of clients across a variety of other industry sectors, from large multinational mining companies, to small business owners and sole traders.
Prior to joining PPM in mid-2012, Peter worked at both PricewaterhouseCoopers and Deloitte specialising in Fuel Tax Credits and more broadly, customs and excise. Peter’s professional background is predominantly legal, having completed a Juris Doctor, Bachelor of Business Management with a major in International Business and a Graduate Certificate in International Customs and Administration Law.
Peter has a strong working relationship with senior ATO personnel and is in regular contact with the ATO’s technical excise team regarding current issues. Peter is also a regular presenter on FTC topics for a number of industry bodies and provides training to Local Government and other legal and accounting practices.
Ken Goldberg, as Managing Director of Modus Management (www.modus.management), helps aspiring businesses maximise their potential. Working with business managers and leaders, he combines a grounded analytical approach with focus on practical implementation to achieve substantive results.
Ken has a significant fleet industry involvement and currently serves as a Queensland Chapter Committee Member with the Australasian Fleet Management Association. He draws on a wealth of industry and technical knowledge having previously been General Manager in Asia-Pacific for a prominent UK-based software company specialising in enterprise-level fleet and asset management solutions.
He has also been both Regional VP and GM in Asia-Pacific for a leading US-based Software-as-a-Service provider who pioneered on-line business-information sharing, collaboration and workflow solutions.
Prior to this, Ken has built a successful business partnering with companies specialising in electronic data interchange and data storage/retrieval solutions. Ken holds a Master of Management degree from University of Southern Queensland, a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with concentration in Management from California State University, Fullerton and is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Lex Van Cooten
Lex began his career in virtual reality in 2014 as an early developer for Oculus Rift hardware. He has since founded and grown the company called Immerse Enterprise, with a team of senior game developers and engineers, to offer corporate client services with an emphasis on utilising virtual and augmented reality technologies for real world solutions.
Having worked with clients such as Hyundai, BUPA Insurance, KPMG, RACQ, Queensland Motor Trades Association and Queensland Urban Utilities the Immerse Enterprise company has vision to bring this technology to the masses through practical, real world applications. These applications include virtual test drives for vehicles, staff training experiences, interactive multiuser environments, disabilities assistive training, and more.
Electric Vehicle Council EVC
Alexandra manages policy and communications at the Electric Vehicle Council with the aim of accelerating the electrification of road transport in Australia.
This work includes managing the EVC’s OEM working group and the 2019 State of EVs Report, the authoritative document on the electric vehicle sector in Australia. Alexandra also helped to design and leads work in the Charge Together Fleets program, a free tool that helps councils and corporates transition their fleets to electric vehicles.
Alexandra’s knowledge of the electric vehicle policy landscape in Australia, particularly in battery management and recycling, helps inform industry regulation and investment decision making nationally.
Llew (BA, GAICD, FIML) is a leading business & digital innovation leader who’s foundered and exited numerous strategy, digital and consulting businesses over the past 23 years.
He’s an Executive Director of Advancer, a Brisbane HR and People & Culture agency that helps businesses of all sizes build high growth teams, leadership opportunities, engagement strategies and innovation streams for growth.

Rob is Director IPWEA FLEET with overall responsibility for the development and delivery of the program.
Rob has over 30 year’s experience in Fleet Management, Asset Management and Procurement and continues to work as a consultant to the Fleet Management industry.
Rob holds qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, an MBA in Technology Management and is a qualified VET Trainer and Assessor.
Ipswich City Council
Simon Ginn is an experienced engineer, transport planner and urban planner focusing on how cities can adapt to existing and emerging technologies in the road and public transport arena. He was the winner of a Churchill Fellowship to investigate Light Rail around North America, Europe and Asia. Has spoken at many conferences on light rail, land use and transport interactions, place making, and new technologies like autonomous vehicles. He is chartered engineer. Simon has worked in a number of countries as a consultant and government official on transport infrastructure and urban planning issues, seeking solutions to complex transport infrastructure that impacts upon our urban society. He holds qualifications in Geographical Sciences, Marketing, Civil Engineering, Engineering research and Urban Planning.
As the Business Development & Relationship Manager for wholly Australia owned FMIS ‘AusFleet Software’, Samantha brings over 30 years experience within the Fleet Management & associated Vehicle & Finance Industries. Having commenced at a dealership as the Pre-delivery Manager, her career progression to Fleet & Government Sales, National Procurement Manager for a Fleet Management Organisation, Operations Manager NZ and State Manager for a Salary Packaging & Leasing company means that with her knowledge of fast moving assets, yellow goods, heavy plant & equipment, she is perfectly placed to understand your fleet requirements from the Workshop right through to your Finance departments, which means you will have no one better to service your account and support your team.
Redland City Council
Jon has been employed at Redland City Council since 2007, previously having spent 13 years in the UK in both the private sector and managing operations and the local fleet and logistics for Royal Mail.
A previous recipient of Australasian Fleet and Road Safety Awards and with over 12 years’ experience in LG Fleet Management, Jon enjoys ascertaining the strategic requirements of the business and identifying innovative solutions around utilisation and fit for purpose Fleet provision.
In addition to responsibilities including the provision of safe, fit for purpose & cost effective vehicle, plant and equipment to the organisation (1400 vehicles, plant and equipment with a replacement value of approximately $25 million), Jon has successfully implemented GPS monitoring and analytics across his fleet, which continues to provide invaluable data and efficiencies to the wider organisation. With the current transition to a new Fleet Management Software system Jon and his fleet team contributing to the city achieving its vision of being “Forward thinking, engaged and focused on enriching community lifestyles”.

One of Ireland’s finest exports, Gerry Gannon has been a journalist, broadcaster, MC and media trainer in Australia for the last 30 years and is now one of the best known speakers and facilitators in Australia.
After a decade with ABC radio in Western Australia, Gerry left to pursue a career that would bring him closer to audiences and allow him to explore parts of the world he couldn’t do from the inside of a radio studio. He established Indonesia’s first English language radio station in Bali, served on the council, and as President, of the Royal Flying Doctor Service and on the board of the Tourism Council of WA.
Gerry is committed to community and non-profit organisations and has also been a board member of Access 31 Television, Kids Help Line and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
